You’re a BIGG goal-getter. So here’s something we can promise you:
Life will beat you up from time to time. But don’t worry. There’s a second act – it will beat you down.
It can happen almost in an instant. Everything is great. Then you find out your biggest customer or your star employee is leaving. You can go from exhilaration to exasperation in “T minus 60 seconds.”
What can you do? We’ll share some of our tactics for dealing with the blows life can land.
1) Express yourself
It’s important to not let it bottle up inside. If you’re frustrated, tell someone. If you’re angry, let it out – we’ve even been known to scream into a pillow!
2) Get physical
An extension of that last point, punch a bag. Do something – anything – physical. It’s life-giving.
Go exercise. Go for a walk – we have a stocked pond near our house. We can just watch the fish and forget our troubles.
3) Go to nature
We love to go for a drive in the country. We especially love going for a walk in the woods or along a river.
Even better, we love walking on a beach. We find this helps us keep things in perspective.
4) Turn to a higher power
We’ll hasten to add this isn’t about converting you to anything. But if you believe in a higher power, then by all means this is the time to make a call!
We find it gives us both strength and comfort. We remind ourselves of this verse:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” ~ Galatians 6:9
5) Talk with someone who gets it
Here’s one of the problems of being a BIGG goal-getter: Most people don’t get us.
So they probably won’t understand what you’re going through. Talk to other BIGG goal-getters who have walked a thousand miles in your shoes.
6) Indulge in great works
Read, listen or watch great works. Read something inspirational. Listen to some great music. Watch an uplifting movie. Take in some art. We love this quote:
“Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one.” ~ Stella Adler
7) Allow yourself to feel it
It’s okay to feel beat down at times. Just let yourself feel it. Cry if it helps. Give yourself some time. This is not the time to push. You need to care for yourself.
8) Escape mentally
We’ve already talked about physical escapes. It may also help to escape mentally. We always turn to our dreams.
We think about what we’re trying to accomplish. It may not lessen the pain, but it reminds us of our “why” which bucks us up emotionally.
9) Get some sleep
Sometimes the best way to get over a bad day is to end it. Go to bed, even if it seems early. Tomorrow is a new day. You’ll be well rested and ready to tackle any BIGG challenge!
